Thread Painting from Wandering under big skies by Charlotte Giblin

I received a flyer in our local newspaper for a visit to a exhibition "POP ART" 11-13 Nov 2016
It was being held at Hautapu Community Hall a few Kms from our home
I decided to visit.
The art, ceramics and some knitted objects were stunning.
It was interesting and I purchased a book on sale  "Wandering Under Big Skies" by Charlotte Giblin
I paged through the book and wow! what lovely photos of her art
I asked her if I may do some thread painting pieces using her art.
Charlotte gave her consent and so I've made my 1st piece

I have used a technique I used at a w/shop we did in April at our Textile Group
gleaned from the book Layer, Paint, Stitch    by Wendy Dolan

Here are some pictures of the process from start to completed piece

I did a online class with Tremendous Stitching this is a piece I dye painted, stamped, stenciled the added organza butterflies in variety of colours and stitched them down on piece
Think it came together well
Was pleased with results

Another w/shop done at our textile group  with Ailie Snow
We made journal  covers
The finished result of one I made

The finished piece of "DOORS"
was over the moon with how it turned out

Pineapple paper piecing just one block done

Made using face swabs
I used gesso over stencils then dropped diluted water colour paints and acrylic paint to add colour
I sealed them with Modge podge
They were mounted on black felt then stitched onto hessian background

Workshop with Marilyn Hunt from our Textile group Layer Paint stitch in April 2016
I was super pleased with the results of this piece
I have not framed it as yet awaiting a ceramic windmill to be stitched in wee blank space
We did a w/shop with Lynne Rowe at our textile group
Different colour of organza fibres were layered, stitched, then using a soldering iron
made holes along feather line and also neatened the edge
TO MUCH embellishments hehe!!!
I do so love BLING
Love results
It was mounted on gold, then black felt leaving a small border and framed on very subtle green background

A w/shop with Claire trying my hand at needle felting in top of piece

Another workshop with Margherita Allen from our Textile Group
"Cutting Edge Textiles"

Friday, 29 April 2016

I haven't posted for a while but decided to get some pictures posted

This piece was made using a soldering iron to burn synthetic fabrics
I used quite a few different colour organza and other sheer fabrics and beads with  other embellishments  When the peacock was completed I mounted it on a piece of black felt and then stitched it to a very light green background and mounted this on a canvas

This was felted experiment

This piece was made as a challenge for our Textile group

This piece was done at an encaustic workshop really enjoyed this technique

this piece was made at our textile group using cane which I stitched fabric around

Both these piece are still work in progress I cannot decided which piece to keep maybe need to re do background maybe to busy
